TEACHING
Lessons out of my Brooklyn, NY studio in person or remotely via Zoom. Hablo Espanol tambien!
I want to give a bit of insight into my teaching here. I’ve been teaching (trombone, trumpet, tuba, euphonium) privately for almost 20 years now and have had a lot of success helping high school and college students develop their embouchures (and provided insight to many professionals) as well as general brass technique and jazz improvisation. I am by no means a “natural” on the instrument and have worked very hard and overcome many issues and chop problems over the years. As a result, I have many different methods for helping students develop on their instruments. My most influential teacher, when it comes to brass playing, was the great brass educator Laurie Frink, who I was fortunate to study with for several years after completing my Masters in Music at NYU. I draw on Laurie’s wisdom to help my students as well as from some of my other teachers (Conrad Herwig, Frank Lacy) and over 20 years of professional experience making music.
Other topics of study can include: composition, arranging and using electronics and pedals with horns.
During my musical travels I’ve been fortunate to give clinics to students all over the world. I love exploring musical ideas with inquisitive minds from different places! Some institutions I have conducted clinics at are: New York University, Oberlin Conservatory, American University, Denver University, University of Edmonton, DIM Escuela de Musica (Mexico) Anahuac University (Mexico), Kaunas Academy of Music (Lithuania), LaSalle College (Singapore) and numerous high schools through out the US and Mexico.
